Car Park Check

How we check car park facts

Every car park page shows who runs it, its free time, maximum stay and appeal route, with the date we last checked and where the facts came from. This is how we get them.

Sources, in order of preference

  1. Our own visit. We photograph the entrance and terms signs ourselves.
  2. The landowner or operator. The retailer's, centre's or operator's own published parking information.
  3. Published news. Local reporting on new cameras, tariffs or rule changes.
  4. Reader reports. Checked against at least one other source before we use them.
  5. Recent driver reports. Forum threads from the last two years, used to confirm an operator, never as the only source for time limits or prices.

What we won't publish

  • A page for a car park whose operator and terms we haven't confirmed. Our build refuses to publish a page with any required fact missing.
  • Copied sign wording, operator text or other people's photos. We describe the rules in our own words.
  • Ratings or reviews of car parks or operators.

Keeping it current

Each page shows a "last checked" date. Anything older than 6 months is flagged for a re-check. If you see something different on the signs, report it and we'll check it.

The rules we check against

The checker and guides follow the Private Parking Sector Single Code of Practice, the government's Private Parking Code of Practice once it's in force, and Schedule 4 of the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012. Each checker result names the rule it relies on.
